New officer takes Oath of Office

Judge Ringus administered the Oath of Office during Tuesday's city council meeting to FPD's newest officer, D. Goff. Officer Goff comes to Fife as a lateral officer from the City of Brier. Officer Goff was raised in Federal Way and graduated from Western Washington University in 2008 and became a Police Officer after graduating from Basic Law Enforcement Academy in June of 2010. Officer Goff received a warm welcome from city council members and is looking forward to serving the community. Officer Goff believes, as do all of those who enter the Law Enforcement profession, that becoming a police officer is his calling.

Man causes concern at council meeting, later arrested.

A man making odd comments about his recent activities during the public speaking portion of Tuesday's City council meeting caused concern among those in attendance. The man indicated he could access money faster than anyone simply going to an ATM machine. Officers were alerted and interviewed the man in a nearby park after he departed the meeting. A records check of the man's identity came back with a confirmed misdemeanor warrant for Theft out of Seattle, one misdemeanor warrant for Theft out of Chehalis and a felony warrant for probation violation for Larceny out of Oregon. A DOL check also indicated the man had a suspended license 3rd degree but admitted he had driven a vehicle to City Hall to attend the meeting. The vehicle was still parked in the City Hall lot. The man was then taken into custody and booked into the Pierce County jail where he awaited transport back to Oregon.

Fishermen find body in Puyallup River

Shortly after 10AM on Saturday, August 18th the Fife Police Dispatch Center received a call from two fishermen in the 7100 block of N. Levee Road who said they believed they had located a deceased person in the Puyallup River.  Fife Officers responded and the fishermen directed them to where they had located the body.  The body was caught in some debris in the river just offshore in a brushy area. It was readily apparent to first responders that the subject had been in the water for an extended period of time.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Swift Water Rescue Team responded for the recovery operation. The Pierce County Sheriff's Office arrived and advised they believed the subject was a person that had gone missing while inner tubing in the Puyallup River on July 8th near Orting.  The clothing matched the description from their missing persons case and it appeared there were no obvious signs of foul play.

The Swift Water Rescue Team recovered the subject with assistance of Tacoma Fire Personnel and Fife Police Department.  The subject was transported to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office for further identification efforts.  The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is the lead agency on the investigation.
