Two arrested in ID theft case

On the evening of May 19th Fife Officers attempted to stop a man at the 5600 block of Pacific Hwy East for Driving While License Suspended 3rd degree. The driver fled on foot to a nearby motel room but then immediately returned to speak with the officers. Upon questioning it was revealed that the suspect was renting a room at that location along with a female. The suspects’ suspicious behavior during questioning and officers’ observations of the rented room warranted applying for a request for search warrant. Once the search warrant was obtained, officers discovered a portable identity theft operation, a handgun and drug paraphernalia in the room. Both parties were arrested and booked in the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of 10 counts of Forgery, 10 counts of Identity Theft, 10 counts of Instruments of Financial Fraud and other Drug related charges. The male was also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st degree and has seven prior Felony convictions including one for burglary. During the ongoing investigation, over 40 Identity Theft victims have so far been identified.

Child left in Fife motel

At approx 0535 on 5/21/12 officers responded to a child abandonment call at the 5200 block of 20th Street. E. Upon investigation, the child was located in a motel room and it was determined that the mother and mother’s boyfriend left the three year old child asleep in the room for approximately 4 hours while they went to the Emerald Queen Casino. With the help of EQC Security, the mother was located and escorted back to the motel. The child was then placed into CPS custody and both mother and boyfriend were booked into jail and now face charges of Reckless Endangerment, Abandonment of a Dependent Person Third Degree and other related drug charges.

Warmer weather means more open windows and doors

As the warmer weather arrives, the FPD would like to remind all residents to make sure they are not leaving their homes vulnerable to theft and burglary. A ground floor window left open or unlocked to keep the house cool, although convenient, is a perfect way for a potential burglar to get in the house. With it remaining lighter out later in the evening, many people accidentally leave the garage door open during the night, possibly due to forgetting to close it on their way in or out of the house.  Double check all doors, screens, and windows before leaving the house or going to bed for the night.
